. in denver and the cold air is coming down in oklahoma city. from 9 in denver for the high to 80 in dallas love field. this cold air is sinking out of canada all the way to the gulf coast. the problem is the gulf coast said it's still fall and it tries to send up moisture and humidity over the top of this cold air. we will get an ice storm throughout central part of the plains where it will be 30 degrees and raining. we say how are you going to do that? it will be 50 degrees aloft or 40 up in the sky. 5,000 feet. it's going to rain, but rain where it's 30. 31, 32 degrees. a little bit of snow in oklahoma city. this is not a snow maker. this is an ice machine for memphis and little rock and evansville. st. louis some snow, but the story is this ice sticking to everything. trees and power lines and millions of people will be without power. when it gets to new york into the east coast, it runs out of moisture. that's some good news. we won't put down the power lines. the central part of the country is in for it. this will get ugly fast. kids will be stuck at school if we don't watch. by tomor

, causing the city to counsel this weekend's downtown holiday parade and annual marathon. the freakish weather causing the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights in and out of dallas-fort worth, airports and highways across the region are littered with accidents causing pipe jul pipe ups. in illinois cars slid on highways and onto the side of the road and medians. in some cases, the weather has been deadly. five deaths have been attributed to the storm and the sudden drastic change in weather in memphis caused some with no place to go, trying to find places to get out of the cold. >> this weather is getting to be awful. rainy, very rainy, very wet, chilly and there's no place for the homeless downtown memphis. it's unusual at this time of year. >> reporter: and this may not be over. a new storm hitting the region this weekend is expected to bring more winterly snow by wednesday. >> crazy to see dallas shut down. the storm is active and another behind it and as always, we have chad myers keeping an eye on things. what's the latest? i haven't seen dallas like that in awhile. >> you know

. the city is dealing with packed snow and ice on the roadways and highways and more snow in the forecast for tomorrow night. big question now is what can we expect today? >> we will ask that question to chad myers who is taking an early look at at this. >> i know it is warm where you are but it is not in the mi midwest. the arcic is on the ground and warm air is riding on top and that warm air is creating an ice storm. there are lots of people this morning waking up without power throughout the midwest from dallas through little rock and west of memphis up to paducah, ice on the ground and more to come. airports will be very slow today. even with the fog in the northeast and all that, yes, but even if your plane is not in the northeast and maybe coming through maybe one of these midwest airports that will being affect later on today. it's all gone for saturday. the only bad news there is another storm system that could affect the northeast especially d.c. and baltimore for sunday and into monday with more ice. we're in a very cold pattern when it tries to rain on top of cold air that is

. there is the traffic now from city, my favorite website in denver. that's not moving fast. snow is coming down. i-70 west of denver, shut down. so many crashes out there. the interstate was done for awhile. they cleared that out. near the eisenhower tunnel things are getting better but i watched pictures on colorado dot and it's completely still snow covered. this is not a piece of cake. all commercial vehicles essentially through colorado have to have chains on the tires at this point. a foot of snow in duluth expected, minneapolis, as well. not quite a foot but close and at least two feet in the mountains to the west of denver. this is a good thing for the people in colorado. they love to go play in the snow. what you don't want to see is highs for tomorrow in the teens or the 30s and then all of a sudden 15, because what will break here, anderson, this isn't on the map. i'll draw it. there is going to be a system that lines up here thursday morning and friday and there's going to be a bunch of snow right through here, probably a foot or more and then somewhere along this line, i don't
